Division Profile

OMEGA Energy specializes in the development, execution and brokerage of renewable energy projects, such as Wind, Solar, Biomass, Hydro and Geothermal.

OmegaGroupEnergy

Previously known as OMEGA ONE, OMEGA Energy Division has assisted in the due diligence and realization of renewable energy projects with over 420 MW installed capacity, initially supported by a contractual annual investment volume of € 100 millon.

Together with our strategic partners we offer services, such as project development, project management, operation, brokerage and technology transfer.

Our core activities include:

1. Investment and Co-investment in Renewable Energy Projects: as end-investor together with our contractual financial partners, or on a standalone basis.

2. Project Management:  OMEGA Energy is able to mobilize a large pool of resources through an established network in order to fulfill project management and project development needs. These range from the full completion of projects, to the arrangement of raw material delivery contracts, equipment,  licensing, technology  transfer, or operational contracts

3. Technology Transfer: Germany is the leading country worldwide in renewable energy and recycling technologies. Our collaboration with German research and development institutes allows us to offer high quality technology transfer, project simulation, and problem solving.

4. Project Brokerage: OMEGA Energy also offers project brokerage services and the arrangement of project funding.

Exclusive cooperation rights and business alliances provide us with a unique access to project pipelines, and they form a strong operational platform for internal and external project development.

The OMEGA Energy network allows us to keep a very lean structure while offering value added services in a wide range of technologies and projects in Europe, North America and the Middle East.

Through the syndication of know-how, OMEGA Energy has an edge and the ability to offer first class investment opportunities.

Furthermore, OMEGA Energy is directly involved in recycling by having access to over 30 million cubic meters of waste dumping resources in Europe. OMEGA Energy partner contracts run up until the year of 2022 .

Biomass

Biomass consists of dead organisms originating from humans, animals, or plants. In the family of biomass fuels, the primary producers of bio energy arethe plants which are at the very beginning of the food chain.

Biomass is used as the base substance for fuel and biogas, as the raw material for wood pellets and as fuel for biomass power stations.

Studies and projects have been initiated with our German know-how partners Ruhl Energie & Umwelt and Agro Science:

PPP Project with Compania Pisquera, Chile.
Grape mark from remote wine production was suggested to produce the necessary process steam needed for the production of energy. In this case, grape mark biomass coupled with solar drying was planned as a full circle system solution.

PPP Project with Vina Calitera, Chile.
Wooden residue from the wine yards, and additional biomass sourced locally were suggested to produce the process heat for steam production. It was planned to install one biomass boiler with a thermal capacity of about 600 kW.

PPP Project with Vina LFE, Chile.
The winery plans to invest in a thermoflash technology which needs about 1,5 to/H of steam (14 bar). The team studied the plans and suggested that process steam needed for the new plant would be locally available biomass to replace the need for diesel. This could be either grape mark or chips as fuel alternatively. Furthermore, it was suggested to evaluate whether a biomass fired hot water system (100°C) could be used for the process heat supply. It was planned to install one steam boiler with all equipment needed for operation.

PPP Project with Vina San Pedro.
The studies showed that wooden residue from the 1,200 ha wine yard is sufficient to serve as fuel to produce biomass process heat. It was suggested that 2 biomass boilers with a total thermal capacity of about 1.600 kW would be sufficient to service needs.

Chong Ming Island Composting Project
With an experience in excess of 12 years of business in the Chinese market, the Omega network companies, Ruhl Energie & Umwelt and X-TERN International, developed sustainable solutions for the recycling of organic residue. The customer required to analyze anaerobic digestion and CO2-controlled composting for energy production in the area of Chong Ming Island, China. The local government planned to establish a strong agricultural production area to supply the greater Shanghai region with biological food. Based on our belief of a circular economy, this project served to show the efficiency and competitiveness of a sustainable agricultural system, coupled with energy production.

Solar Energy

There are two types of solar power, namely solar thermal and photovoltaic energy.

Solar thermal: a medium is heated by the sun along the focal line of a parabolic mirror. The resulting heat is converted via a turbine and a generator into electrical energy.

Photovoltaic: power is generated by modules which are directly facing the sun. Existing solar modules are silicon-based with a relatively poor efficiency rate. Newer modules contain organic substances which generate the electrical energy on thin sheets of glass. These thin-film modules have a higher efficiency rating.

Currently, the Omega team is studying integrating high-efficiency nano-technology modules into its German parking projects.

Hydropower

Hydropower is one of the most important and established renewable energy sources. In order to harness this type of energy, the topology of the country has to be favorable to allow for either run of the river, pump-storage plants, wave power, or dam power production. Countries like Iceland, Norway and Austria have a high proportion of power production from water and have been able to export this energy efficiently.

The team assisted a German project developer with the evaluation and investor access for a hydropower project in the Balkan region and is currently assessing investments for a German fund in Canadian First Nations markets.

Wind

The use of wind power is a tested method to generate energy, originating in traditional windmills. Today wind turbines generate electricity for industrial purpose which is also fed into the national grid. Kinetic energy in the air is converted from the rotor of a wind turbine into rotational energy. This rotational energy is converted by a generator into electric energy.

The team has been involved in originating remote stand-alone wind projects in northern Canada with native groups and European technology and financing. Initial projects range back to 2007.

Geothermal Energy

Geothermal energy is harvested from heat stored in the ground and can be used for both heating and cooling. Turbines transform geothermal heat directly into electrical power. To date, two types of geothermal energy is sourced according to the drilling depth: first, near surface geothermal bore holes up to 400 meters, and second deep drilling to depths up to 2,000 meters. New deep drilling projects at depths over 3,000 meters are being explored to increase the efficiency level of each bore hole.

Omega has accompanied one of the biggest renewable energy projects in the world: the laying of a submarine cable to Europe to provide geothermal power and hydropower electricity. Omega assists in coordinating the project development in agreement with the national authorities and sources international partners and financing.
